Oil Wreck - June 8, 2007
RJ. from Treasure Cove, has booked a series of Friday mud hole trips. The idea is to give his divers a place to practice thief deep diving skills. The first trip, got blown out. Today was to be the second  dive in the series. Please check the schedule, or contact RJ. Directly for more information, or to book a spot.

Today was a good day for a mud hole trip. The seas were calm, and there had been no rain for several days. The mood on the boat was light hearted as the group loaded for the day. The 8 AM departure time made it seem even more leisurely Once loaded up, we headed out the inlet for the short, 14 mile ride. Once on sight, Captain Steve, jumped in to set the hook on the Oil wreck’s stern. The Oil wreck, is a tanker that was sunk in WW2 while waiting to join a convoy. Today the wreck is in two, otherwise intact halves in 180 ft. of water. Because it lies in such deep water it was never wire dragged or depth charged to lower it’s profile in the water. The cargo booms are intact, and stand over 30 ft. off the bottom. In truth, when the vis is bad, it is a scary, shitty dive, that will test your mettle. On a day with good vis, it is still deep, but becomes one of the most prolific, and spectacular wrecks in the area. Basically it is a crap shoot. Will she be a princess or a bitch, on any given day??? that is part of the Oil wreck’s  allure to divers. I have seen this wreck with 40ft. Of vis, she is amazing.
