Mothers Day
Today is MOTHERS day, time to send/bring your mom flowers and a gift. For some of us, it was business as usual, it was Sunday, so it must be time to go diving.

A cheerful group loaded up in the bright sunshine. The air had a true, spring like warmth to it. The divers & crew loaded up in eager anticipation of a great dive. Our trip to day was supposed to be to the :Lillian, lying 24 miles offshore in 160 ft. of water. The forecast called for increasing winds, so I opted to play the spring weather safely, and defer to the Algol, only 15 miles offshore, and 130 ft. deep.

The inlet was calm as we sailed past the head buoy on our way off shore. The big cats purred for the 45 min. ride. Once on site, Gerhard jumped into set the hook. I asked him to tie in high, about 70 ft.  This makes it easier to navigate this huge wreck. This wreck is over 500ft. Long with over 6 decks to swim thru, you could spend hours on this wreck & not see it all. This wreck is a great example of the NJ. Artificial reef project. This wreck offers all kinds of wild life, great vis, and levels of diving from intermediate to very advanced. We are vert fortunate to have such a great wreck in our back yard.  This wreck should be on overtones “must dive list” The John Jack will be visiting this wreck several times this season.

The divers piled off deck enmass after the ocean was open. The divers slid down the anchor line to see the bridge area loom out of the green. The 30 ft. vis made the view awesome!! The entire two top decks were engulfed in fish, like an aquarium. As divers penetrated the lower decks, a good light became a necessity. Several nice lobsters were brought up, as well as Sea Bass & mussels. This wreck is a sea food feast. There is always something good to bring home for dinner.

No matter how great the dive, eventually, all must return to the surface. As the divers relaxed on the surface, the wind started to pick up. Not wanting to over stay our welcome, we pulled up stakes, and headed inshore. Unfortunately the seas continued to build, making retreat the best option, so we turned the bow to the inlet and sailed back in the inlet. It is AMAZING how much calmer it is inside the break water.

Though the day got cut short, the part we had was great. As we sailed further in the inlet, we could feel the noon day heat. It was beginning to feel like summer was in the air. I hope all the Moms out there, had as great a day as we did.
